Day 1 - arriving at Kathmandu
After a fairly uneventful trip we arrived in Kathmandu at around mid morning and went through the obligatory passport control before collecting our bags.
First sight of the Himalayas from the plane:
We were met by Highland Expeditions and the head rep - Passang along with Akas who will be our tour and trek guide for the two weeks. A quick group photo before jumping in the bus and heading for the Marriot:
We were all pretty bushed by the time we had checked in but decided to stretch the legs after 11 hours in the air. So off to the local market in Kathmandu where UK traffic rules don't seem to apply: Zebra crossing appear to be advisory, lots of beeping and police with whistles, cars-mopeds-pedestrians all trying to get down narrow streets. Shopping wasn't great and we returned with a couple of trekking maps and an umbrella!
On return we had lunch which was followed by a well earned siesta: then a pre-dinner drink, dinner and bed. All pretty crackered but great to be here....
